Patrick Mayangi 2019 Election

Whether it is through volunteering, mentoring, or engaging with other community leaders, Patrick Mayangi has maintained a distinct presence within the Rideau-Rockcliffe community. He is a steadfast supporter of affordable housing initiatives, his efforts resulting in a great many ties to organizations such as the Multifaith Housing Initiative, the Catholic Centre for Immigrants Ottawa, and the United Nations Association in Canada.

Harbouring a long-standing passion for politics, Patrick completed his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science (2013) through Carleton University. In an effort to further round out his academic resume, Patrick successfully pursued a Master’s degree in European, Russian and Eurasian Studies from Carleton University (2018). Due to his chosen fields of study, Patrick is fluent in four languages: English, French, German, and Lingala.

During his studies, he enriched his learning experience by working abroad with the Federal Republic of Germany and the Canadian Association of University Teachers of German (CAUTG) as an English language assistant in Berlin, Germany (2011-2012). He would later travel to Brussels, Madrid, and return to Berlin in order to conduct research pertaining to instruments of participatory democracy in Europe, which culminated in the creation of his Master’s research paper on The European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI): Fostering More Transnational Communication.

Patrick is the second oldest child of Rev. Dr. Robert and Anne-Charlotte Mayangi’s six children. Having lived in Ottawa-Vanier since moving to Ottawa in 2005, Patrick is a motivated young man that cares deeply about the community that he grew up in. Patrick is extensively familiar with the Rideau-Rockcliffe ward’s strengths and weaknesses and has made it his objective to further improve all aspects of his community while in the capacity of City Councillor.
